Biography of Mimi Miyagi

Mimi Miyagi (born Melody Damayo on July 3, 1973 in Davao City, Philippines) is a Filipino adult model and porn star.

Born in Davao City, Mimi is the second of four children of immigrant parents Mike Ariesgado and Luz Damayo, both conservative Christians. As a child, Damayo was something of a prodigy. She spent her childhood studying piano and dreaming of becoming an Olympic gymnast. At the age of six she moved to the United States with her parents and grew up in California. She was sent back to Mindanao for high school by her parents, who enrolled her in a conservative Seventh-day Adventist academy in the remote province of Bukidnon, hoping that she would acquire Filipino values.

Damayo finished high school and enrolled in an Adventist university in the same area, but dropped out after two years. After being a disc jockey at the college radio station, she wanted to make a career in show business.

She returned to Los Angeles just before her 18th birthday with just over $1,000 to her name. Damayo earned a scholarship to the American College for Fashion Merchandising, Westwood, Los Angeles, but college was cut short in 1992 when she ran out of money and began looking for work.

When she came of age she pursued an adult career, starting with Ed Powers.

Damayo stumbled upon an ad seeking nude models and answered, thus beginning her rise in the adult film industry. She took the name "Mimi," which was the nickname given to her by her grandmother as a child.

"Miyagi" is derived from the character of Mr. Miyagi from the film The Karate Kid. She cloaked her Filipino nationality with Asian mysticism. Although she was always the lowest-paid actress on the set, she continued to knock on the doors of studio producers. Now, the business is staffed by a group of 12 multiethnic women who do chats on rotating shifts, freeing up space for her job as a gubernatorial candidate. Her web business was helped boost by her bid for governor. In fact, she says that after an appearance on an MSNBC talk show in the United States to discuss her candidacy with conservative host Tucker Carlson, the response was so overwhelming that her web server crashed for several hours. Now that she had access to a global public audience, she continued to expand the Asian adult film market. In 1999, Damayo began producing films and scouting talent for Metro Home Video. and produced the series she titled FantAsiany, of which there are now Series #1,2,3,4.

Mainstream Films:
Nearly bankrupt from her divorce, in September 2003, "Mimi" came out of retirement and appeared in the adult film Happy Ending (not to be confused with Happy Endings released later by Lions Gate Films).

In May 2005, Damayo began work on her first supporting role in a mainstream comedy, Come Again.

In December 2006, "Mimi" returned to adult films to great fanfare after her failed Republican bid for governor of Nevada.
