Marilyn Ann Taylor, known professionally as Marilyn Chambers, was an American adult film actress, exotic dancer, model, and vice-presidential candidate. She was born in the United States and became an iconic figure in the adult entertainment industry. Her career took off with her hardcore debut in 1972 with the film "Behind the Green Door" and rose to prominence with the 1980 film "Insatiable." She is often considered one of the first porn stars.

Chambers began her career as a model and actress, and in the 1970s, she was selected by Procter & Gamble to represent the image of its Ivory Snow detergent. The famous photograph of Marilyn, in which she appeared as a loving young mother holding a baby, became synonymous with the product's purity. However, this choice proved ironically embarrassing for the company when they learned that the model had changed course and was working in the adult film industry in San Francisco.

Although Chambers had no intention of making hardcore films, her acting and modeling careers weren't taking off as she'd hoped. In 1970, she moved to San Francisco hoping to break into the film industry. Finding little work, she began dancing topless and bottomless in various clubs. In 1972, at the age of 20, she answered an ad for a film, only to realize it was a pornographic production. The film was "Behind the Green Door," directed by Jim and Artie Mitchell. Initially, Chambers was hesitant to participate, fearing it would hurt her opportunities in mainstream film, but she was eventually convinced by the directors. During negotiations, she asked for 10% of the profits, which Jim refused, but Artie, recognizing her attractiveness and her resemblance to actress Cybill Shepherd, agreed to her request.

After the film was completed, Chambers revealed to the Mitchell brothers that she had been the model for the Ivory Snow commercial. They saw this as a promotional opportunity and began advertising the film as starring the "Ivory Snow Girl." Procter & Gamble, horrified, pulled all ads featuring Chambers, which catapulted her career and cemented her image as the "good girl next door who also did porn." Furthermore, Chambers had the honor of participating in the first interracial scene in adult film, which was featured in "Behind the Green Door."

Marilyn Chambers died in 2009 at the age of 56 due to heart problems, believed to be related to her long-standing addiction to alcohol and drugs. Her legacy lives on in the history of adult film, as she is remembered as a pioneering figure in the industry.
