Ela Darling, stage name of Rebecca Gail Krznarich, was born in July 1986 in the Californian city of San Jose, located in Santa Clara County. She was born into a family of German, Croatian and Danish descent. At a very early age, she moved to Denton (Texas), where she went to high school. Later, she was a student at the University of Texas at Dallas, where she graduated in Forensic Psychology. She also has a Master's degree in Library Science from the University of Illinois.

Her stage name comes from the combination of elements from the literary world. Ela, a modification of the name of the writer Zelda Fitzgerald and Darling, for the characters Wendy Darling, from Peter Pan, and Jessica Darling, a character from the novels of Megan McCafferty

Her first job was as a waitress at the Waffle House restaurant chain. She started in the adult entertainment industry making amateur videos with softcore, fetish and bondage themes at the age of 22. She decided to take this field a step further and entered the porn industry in 2009, at the age of 23.
